about

A master of underrated and flexible rhythm, Beaver Harris (1936-1991) was a tireless community builder and supporter of creative freedom. In addition to collaborating with New Thing shamans such as Archie Shepp, Albert Ayler and Marion Brown, at the end of the 1960s the drummer founded the 360 Degree Music Experience, which brought together different sound worlds. Beautiful Africa was recorded in Milan, only a few days after an intense session with Massimo Urbani’s rhythm section. Trombonist Grachan Moncur III and multi-instrumentalist Ken McIntyre stand out, as does pianist Rahn Burton, to whom we owe the spiraling "Aladdin's Carpet.”
