about
Percussionist, composer, philosopher, and adventurer in global sounds - a term world music has tried in vain to reduce to mere style - Adam Rudolph is a natural bridge between jazz and the geographies of the world. An atlas of small gestures and big emotions, a multi-instrumentalist who has worked with Don Cherry, Bill Laswell, Herbie Hancock and Wadada Leo Smith, Rudolph is physicality and spirit at the same time. His Moving Pictures project was born in the early nineties, and after a debut album for Flying Fish, he released Skyway on Soul Note, a kaleidoscope of sounds, rhythms, and colors, embellished by Kevin Eubanks' guitar and Ralph Jones’ winds. Welcome to the magic garden!
Adam Rudolph - hand drums, tabla, tar and bendir frame drums, udu clay drum, kalimba (East African thumb piano), gongs, cymbals, bells, overtone flute, chant
Ralph Jones - soprano and tenor saxophone, C and alto flute, bass clarinet, Central American clay flute
Susan Allen - acoustic and electric concert harp, kayagum (Korean zither)
Jihad Racy - ney and salamiyyah (reed flutes), ud (Arabic lute), Kaman (Arabic violin), mijwiz (double clarinet), rababah (Egyptian fiddle)
Kevin Eubanks - acoustic guitar
Hannah Rudolph - poetry and recitation

I was brought here after listening to a live performance of Makaya's on you tube. I instantly loved the song Holy Lands so much that I had to see if the album version was the same rendition as the live one. Then I listened to the whole album! Universal Beings is a just a groove... It's a mix of traditional and something new, very nice. pandr1900
